“Scotland’s larder is world-famous. From salmon and seafood to whisky and meat, Scotland’s food and drink has a global reputation for quality and makes a key contribution to the country’s economy and export performance.” – Showcasing Scotland
The three day event taking place between 1st – 3rd October is in full swing at the five-star, Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire. It is expected that over 150 suppliers and more than 150 buyers, all with huge spending power, will attend.
Marked as the key trade opportunity in Scotland’s food and drink calendar, the event holds extensive commercial opportunities, as it welcomes buyers from around the globe including not only Europe but some of the world’s biggest markets such as China, Japan, the US and the Middle East. The event will also welcome some of the UK’s major players including supermarkets and hospitality chains.
Chief executive of Scotland Food and Drink, James Withers said:
“This is the most important trade event that we do in our sector. Scotland punches above its weight in terms of food and drink exports, accounting for almost 30 per cent of the UK total and worth over £6bn a year.
“Our food and drink industry has a growing global reputation for quality and, over the next few days, we can convert that status into sales.
“This is an opportunity drive Scottish food and drink sales across the UK but it is also an enormous export opportunity. Brexit is a reminder of how we must continue to sell a broader range of products to a broader range of markets. This is critical to achieve our ambition of a £30bn sector by 2030.”
2017’s Showcasing Scotland resulted in more than £60m of sales across the two days so it is easy to see what an exciting and valuable occasion this is for Scottish Food and Drink.
Food and Drink is one of Scotland’s largest industries, it generates a £15bn turnover and supports 119,000 jobs. An initiative aims to double that annual turnover to £30bn by 2030.
