Assistant Accountant - Food Industry

Role Overview

The Assistant Accountant will support day‑to‑day finance operations, focusing on accounts payable, payment processing, invoice accuracy, reconciliations, and general finance administration. The role also supports month‑end tasks, payroll preparation, and communication across internal teams.


Key Responsibilities

Invoice & Payment Processing

  • Process supplier invoices, checking for accuracy and discrepancies.
  • Code invoices correctly and liaise with suppliers or internal teams to resolve issues.
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and goods‑received records.
  • Prepare weekly payment runs and manage expense claims.
  • Create and issue sales invoices when required.

Supplier & Record Management

  • Maintain supplier records and set up new suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier balances in line with agreed credit limits.

Reconciliations

  • Reconcile bank statements and supplier statements.
  • Support month‑end tasks such as accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Payroll & Internal Support

  • Compile payroll data for submission to an external provider.
  • Assist with finance system admin and approval workflows.
  • Work with internal teams to resolve queries and escalate issues when needed.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience with accounting software (Xero advantageous).
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong communication, accuracy, and organisational skills.
  • Positive, proactive team player with a hands‑on attitude.
