Recruiter: Alexander Steele: Alexander Steele is working exclusively with a leading food manufacturing client in Aberdeenshire to recruit a Mechanical Engineer. This is a hands-on role supporting the daily operations and maintenance of onsite renewable energy systems, including biomass boilers and combined heat and power (CHP) units.
About the Role: You will be responsible for ensuring the mechanical reliability, safety, and efficiency of renewable energy equipment. The position involves routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and responding to out-of-hours issues to support site energy needs.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Monitoring
Conduct daily inspections of boiler and CHP systems
Monitor system pressures, temperatures, and mechanical integrity
Check for leaks, unusual noises, and signs of wear or damage
Clean and maintain filters, fans, belts, and hoppers
Accurately record operational data
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance
Replace worn parts, lubricate components, and tighten fittings
Coordinate third-party servicing and supplier visits
Ensure safety devices, alarms, and interlocks are working correctly
Health, Safety & Compliance
Follow all relevant health and safety procedures
Wear appropriate PPE and follow site safety protocols
Respond promptly to system faults, breakdowns, or emergency conditions
On-Call & Out-of-Hours Support
Participate in a night and weekend call-out rota
Respond to urgent alarms or system failures as needed
Log and report all incidents accurately
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Strong mechanical aptitude (e.g., pumps, valves, fans, motors)
Comfortable with manual tasks and outdoor work
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and be on-call
Reliable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented
Desirable:
Electrical knowledge (e.g., wiring checks, control panels)
Previous experience in a manufacturing, energy, or utilities environment
Familiarity with CHP systems or renewable energy technologies
Other Requirements:
Right to work in the UK
Full UK driving licence (Category B)
Willingness to live on-site (accommodation provided: caravan or cottage)
