Alexander Steele continue to partner with a global food business that manufacturer and supply a range of products to retailers, food service and B2B across the UK and Ireland. The business is looking to appoint a Shift Manager to their Production facility at their site in Leicestershire.

The role:
Production Operations:

  • Lead and monitor daily production activities to ensure output, efficiency, and quality goals are achieved.
  • Oversee food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards on shift.
  • Ensure all health & safety and fire safety checks are completed.
  • Maintain process control and ensure compliance with food safety procedures.
  • Ensure all equipment, materials, and areas meet brand standards and customer requirements.
  • Follow and enforce site security measures.

Team Management:

  • Supervise and support a team of production operatives.
  • Ensure all staff (including agency workers) are trained and competent in their roles.
  • Manage team performance, including training, coaching, appraisals, and disciplinary processes.
  • Plan and approve holidays, monitor attendance, and conduct return-to-work interviews.
  • Provide regular shift briefings and communicate key updates to the team.

Communication & Compliance:

  • Maintain clear communication with the Production Manager and other departments.
  • Record and report all performance metrics, incidents, and non-conformities.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting in line with company and ISO standards.
  • Attend required training and maintain all relevant certifications.
  • Support continuous improvement and help identify ways to reduce waste and downtime.

Cover & Additional Duties:

  • Provide cover for the Production Manager when required
  • Take responsibility for site operations and security in the manager’s absence.
  • Complete any other tasks as directed by senior management.

Candidate requirements:

  • Min 3 years experience in a management or supervisory role within a food environment 
  • Understanding of working in a BRC accredited environment
  • HACCP and Food Safety certifications
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and organise work efficiently, operate effectively under pressure, and take a proactive approach
