The Role

As a Development Technician, you will play a key part in supporting product development projects from concept through to pilot trials. Working closely with technologists and cross-functional teams, you’ll help ensure products are developed efficiently, safely and in line with customer expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organise ingredients and materials required for upcoming development work, ensuring resources are available and well managed.
  • Assist with the creation and refinement of new and existing products, supporting customer briefs and internal innovation initiatives.
  • Conduct precise weighing, blending and handling of dry powders, cereals and spice mixes in line with technical instructions.
  • Carry out kitchen and pilot plant trials, accurately following formulations and processing guidelines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce waste and operate in a lean, efficient manner.
  • Cook and present products for internal reviews, customer presentations and tasting sessions.
  • Document trial results clearly, highlighting progress, challenges and potential solutions.
  • Support the review and maintenance of risk assessments, safe systems of work and training documentation.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety, consistently using appropriate PPE and adhering to established procedures.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to source ingredients and coordinate development requirements.
  • Help deliver a responsive, high-quality experience for customers, including supporting visits and rapid turnaround of briefs.
  • Explore new ingredients and raw materials, assisting with trials and reporting on functionality and performance.

About You

  • A genuine interest in food development and culinary application.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator, able to build effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project demands.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and EU when required.
  • Full UK driving licence (desirable).
