Alexander Steele Recruitment is currently assisting a food manufacturing business based in Manchester as they are looking to add a Specification Technologist to their team. The Specification Technologist will effectively manage & be responsible for customer specification databases & systems associated with specification generation and label creation. Manage customer code of practice alerts and keep abreast of legislative and customer requirements in a food manufacturing environment, ensuring that the business is compliant to all customer policies and standards. You will liaise with Technical, Commercial and NPD colleagues from product concept to launch ensuring all product legalities are considered during the process. You will also help effectively deliver customer and internal new or changed product projects through to launch and management ongoing. Responsibilities •To be responsible for the generation of product specifications and ensure their compliance to customer requirements. Provide a generic system of information transfer to suit the technical needs of our business. •Effectively maintain supplier specifications and systems, working to agreed deadlines and ensuring specifications and artwork are ‘right first time’. •To assist the Director of Technical with identified technical duties. •To be an effective support to the QA, Production, Commercial and NPD Teams. •To be an effective member of the Technical Team, with specific emphasis on the provision of accurate information at all times. •To ensure critical paths, in regard to specification and artwork approval, are always met and manage the customer technical information process from concept to launch, ensuring timescales are always met and information is clear and accurate. •To ensure good communications are maintained with the wider teams. •To be fully conversant with current legislation, customer codes of practice and keep up to date with any changes to current applicable legislation. •Generation of new or changed label scripts and technically approve any label / artwork amendments. •To ensure good communications are maintained with customers, governing bodies, the Director of Technical and with the organisation in general. Ensure the correct channels of approval are followed where appropriate. Desired Skills and Experience: •Degree or higher-level education in a relevant subject or / and industry experience – Food technology, nutrition or similar. •Experience of completion of specifications for complex food products and UK retailer on- line specification portals. •HACCP experience and HACCP qualifications at level 3. •Experience of UK and EU legislation specific to product labelling. •Product or food industry experience. •Knowledge of relevant food industry standards, regulatory requirements and GFSI experience. •Attention to detail / right first-time approach. •Communication skills – verbal and written. •Data collection, management, and analysis. •Planning and organising.
